Four Edo Govt Officials Arrested Over Cult Activities

Barely 24 hours after the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, dispatched a special squad to Edo State to tackle the spate of cultism, kidnapping, robbery and other related crimes, the team has arrested 11 suspected leaders of cult groups in the state, among them, four state government functionaries.

Police sources said the team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad, FEDSARS, Chris Ezike, stormed the hideout of the cultists few hours after arriving Benin City and successfully arrested leaders of cult confraternities for alleged complicity and murder of 10 Nigerians in the last one month in Edo State.

The cult leaders were arrested on suspicion of conspiratorial involvement in  alleged murder of one Ojo Ayeadu, 55, at old Benin-Auchi Road  and nine other persons at different locations in Benin City and its environs.

Reacting to the development, an Edo State Government official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said: “Those arrested, from what we gathered, are junior workers of the War Against Indiscipline. The state governor does not condone cultism, which explains why when one of his bodyguards was accused of being involved in cultism, he ordered his arrest, which was done immediately.”

Confirming the arrests, Force Public Relations Officer, Ag Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, told Vanguard on phone: “Yes, a good number of arrests has been made, irrespective of their status.  The figures are still coming in.  The thrust of the IG is yielding positive results.”

LASU To Resume Academic Activities Monday

The troubled Lagos State University will resume academic activities on Monday, May 18, following a meeting between the state government, the varsity’s authorities and university unions.

LASU was shut in April following a crisis between the management and the unions in the institution.

The unions had passed a vote of no confidence on the Vice Chancellor, John Obafunwa, who they accused of inappropriate promotion of some staffs and asked the appointment be reviewed or reversed.

ASUU also accused Mr. Obafunwa of victimization of its members, withdrawal of certificates of lecturers, abuse of due process by the university’s management and trying to cripple the association with attempts to freeze its account and stoppage of check-up dues of the association.

After Tuesday’s meeting, which had representatives of the governing council, university management and executives of the students union at the main auditorium of the Lagos State University College of Medicine Ikeja, a communiqué was issued signed by the various parties involved, including the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Obafunwa.

Just For The Ladies : How To Have A Healthy Vagina

There are tons of common misconceptions about what you should do to maintain vaginal health. You might think you know everything about keeping your lady bits in tip-top shape, but you could be missing some key tips.

A healthy vagina is naturally acidic and contains rich quantities of beneficial bacteria to help fend off infections and maintain a normal pH level. It is also normal to secrete small amounts of discharge to stay clean, just like saliva is produced to help cleanse the mouth. Interference with these normal conditions can cause vaginal irritation or infection, so it's good to know how to keep your vagina healthy.

Vaginitis is inflammation of the vagina, caused by a disruption of the bacteria in the vagina. Experts report 40% of all types of vaginitis are caused by candida, a yeast like fungus, and when it multiplies in the vaginal tract, it is called a "yeast infection", and around 75% of women experience one at some point in their lives.

Symptoms
  • Itching and burning in the vagina and vulva
  • Vaginal discharge (small amounts are normal, but large amounts are abnormal)
  • Red, swollen, painful vaginal mucous membranes and external genitalia
  • Satellite lesions (tender, red, pus filled bumps, which can spread to the thighs and anus)
  • Odor
Causes

  • Antibiotics
  • Pregnancy causing increased heat, moisture, and hormonal shifts
  • Diabetes
  • Corticosteroid use
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection
  • Birth control pills
  • Obesity
  • High sugar intake
  • Wearing panty hose, tight clothing, or noncotton underwear
  • Menstruation -- women report recurrent episodes of vaginitis immediately before and after their periods
THINGS TO EMBRACE

A Healthy Diet

You may not realize it, but a balanced, nutritious diet and drinking plenty of fluids are key to vaginal and reproductive health, as certain foods are very effective in treating vaginal health problems. Cranberry juice and yogurt help to prevent yeast infections, aid in their treatment and even protect against UTI's. Eating more soy products that contain phytoestrogens or a weak form of estrogen, can aid natural lubrication.
  • Cranberry Juice: This has long been hailed for its ability to prevent and relieve the symptoms of UTI's. The acidic compounds in cranberry juice that help combat “bad” bacteria are not broken down during the digestive process. So these compounds make it through to the urinary tract, where they prevent “bad” bacteria from binding together to generate infection. In addition to drinking more cranberry juice, cut back on alcohol and caffeine, which irritate the bladder.

  • Greek Yogurt & Kefir: Snacking on Greek yogurt and Kefir with live cultures, otherwise known as Probiotics, helps boost the good bacteria down there which is HUGE for preventing annoying vaginal problems like yeast infections. Just be sure that you’re not eating the super-sugary kind, because that makes you more susceptible to those infections.
  • Foods Rich In Vitamin E: Vitamin E is an essential vitamin with antioxidant properties. In the body, it is commonly associated with healthy skin, but it also plays a role in the proper functioning of many of the body’s organs. You can get it from items like Tofu, Broccoli, Avocado, Spinach & other Greens, Seafood, Olive Oil, Squash, Pumpkin, Chili Powder, Mangoes & Tomatoes Kiwi, & Sunflower Seeds. Also nuts like Almond, Hazel Nuts.
  • Water: Which pretty much goes without saying as water helps all functions of the body run more smoothly, especially where muscles and bodily fluids are concerned. Our mucous membranes are found in places such as the eyes, mouth, nose and vagina, and these places need a well-hydrated body to function properly. Drinking the correct amount of water not only aids in natural lubrication, but it can also create a milder vaginal scent and taste.

CLASS ASSIGNMENT

A teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it.

The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories.

There were all the regular types of stuff: Spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized, that only Janie was left.

"Janie, do you have a story to share?"

"Yes ma'am. My daddy told me a story about my Mommy.

She was a Marine pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife.

She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break, and then she parachuted right into the middle of 20 Iraqi troops.

She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands."

''Good Heavens, 'said the horrified teacher. What did your Daddy tell you was the moral to this horrible story'?"

"Don't Screw with Mommy when she's been drinking."

Herbalist Landlord Kills Tenant Over Wife’s Treatment

Youths of Ikot Abasi Effiom in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, Tuesday night, set ablaze a herbalist, Ette Okon Friday, after he allegedly slashed the throat of a commercial motorcyclist (okadaman) identified as Itoro Titus, following a misunderstanding.

According to Rita Emmanuel, cousin to the slain okadaman, trouble started when the okadaman’s wife, Ndarake, took ill a week ago after giving birth to a child that died a few hours afterwards.

Late Titus was seeking a cure to her ailment, when his landlord said he could help.

Emmanuel said: “On Tuesday morning, my cousin’s wife had epileptic seizures and his landlord said he could treat it. So Itoro went to his mother from whom he obtained N5,000, then gave the money to the landlord to treat the woman.”

She said after the herbalist collected the money, he assured the deceased that his wife would get well soon.

When the deceased returned home from work at about 11p.m., he found his wife in a worse state, despite assurances of his landlord and demanded to know from him why his wife was not improving.

FG : Lead Poisioning Kills 28 In Niger

The Federal Government, yesterday, announced the outbreak of lead poisioning in some villages in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, which has claimed 28 lives.

Minister of State for Health, Fiddles Nwankwo, who briefed newsmen over the incident in Abuja yesterday, noted that most of those affected were children below five years.

He further said that a technical team confirmed the outbreak of lead poisoning in the area.

Nwankwo linked the outbreak to some new-found illegal mining sites, which contained more leaded ores but were often brought home for crushing and processing.

Altogether, 65 cases have so far been recorded in the affected areas, but there were signs that it could spread to neighbouring localities in the area and Kaduna State.

Nwankwo said, however, that the poison was not contagious if the people were amenable to control and safer and healthier practices were observed.

He explained that the essence of the briefing was to raise awareness and solicit for the cooperation of the people.
