Buhari Explains Delay In Appointment Of Ministers

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday attributed the delay in his appointment of ministers to the late submission of the transition committee’s report on the previous administration to him.

Buhari made this known while speaking to newsmen at the Summit of the African Union in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The President said that he was being careful in order not to make mistakes in appointing individuals especially to key positions such as in the finance and petroleum ministries.

“I don’t know why people are so anxious about ministers. But eventually we will have (them).

“But the main reason is that I have an interim committee which I agreed with the former President Jonathan that the ministers of the outgoing government should hand over their notes or their documents to this interim committee so that a position can be prepared for the new government to start from with clear records from ministers.

Trouble Over Late Arisekola’s Properties

Barely a year after the late industrialist and Aare Musulumi of Nigeria, Abdul Azeez Alao Arisekola, passed on, there appears to be controversy over his vast estate.

It is a fact that the late philanthropist didn’t die intestate, as he had prepared his will certified by the Oyo State High Court of Justice in August 2013. It was, however, administered a couple of days after his burial last year by Dr. Oba Otudeko.

Consequently, the liquid and landed properties of the late entrepreneur had been distributed and utilised, according to the details in the will.

Apparently, the properties were shared among 32 children, three wives and three relations. He also lavished his generosity on some individuals, as contained in the will.

However, Society Happenings gathered that the Lister Motors boss lived on credit while alive. Sources close to the family claim that credit institutions that overwhelmed Arisekola with depositors’ funds, which he couldn’t offset before his death June last year, are now  literally on the neck of the family.

Sudanese President Barred From Leaving South Africa After Call for Arrest

A South African judge on Sunday banned Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir from leaving the country after the International Criminal Court called for him to be arrested at a summit in Johannesburg.

Bashir, who is wanted for alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in the Darfur conflict, mostly travels to countries that have not joined the ICC, but South Africa is a signatory of the court’s statutes.

The ruling was the first time any court has prevented a head of state from leaving a country following a request by the ICC, but Khartoum remained defiant, insisting Bashir would return home.

The Southern African Litigation Centre, a legal rights group, had launched an urgent application in the Pretoria High Court to force authorities to arrest Bashir on the opening day of the African Union summit.

“President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan is prohibited from leaving the Republic of South Africa until the final order is made in this application,” Judge Hans Fabricius said in his ruling.

250 Dead Workers Receiving Salaries In Ekiti, 1,000 Fake Workers Discovered

Following the verification of workers the Ekiti State government embarked upon recently, no fewer than 1,000 workers it said were receiving salaries fraudulently have been discovered.

The state government also announced that of the 1,000 fake workers, a total of 250 of them, who it said were dead, were also discovered to have been receiving salaries.

The Special Assistant to Governor Ayo Fayose on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, made this known in a statement he made available to newsmen on Sunday.

Olayinka, who was reacting to an allegation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state that Governor Ayodele Fayose was deceiving the state's workers with the verification, said "over 1,000 fake workers have already been discovered on the payroll that ought not to be receiving salaries."

Ekiti APC, in a statement by its publicity secretary in the state, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Sunday, alleged that Fayose was "deceiving the state's workers over failed promises to pay their salaries," saying "endless workers' verification exercise designed to ‎keep faith with the government is a wicked tactic to secure workers' cooperation."
