Kunle Kalejaiye Stripped Of SAN Rank
Nigeria’s Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee has stripped a lawyer, Kunle Kalejaiye, of his rank as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). The stripping is one of several disciplinary measures against Mr. Kalejaiye.
Mr. Kaleijaye was the Nigerian lawyer caught exchanging text messages with an election tribunal judge, Thomas Naron, during the election litigation between former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State and the state's current governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

43 Year-Old Tailor In Court For Raping Teenage Food-Vendor
A 43-year-old tailor, Shakiru Fasasi, who allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl, names withheld, was on Thursday arraigned in Lagos. Fasasi, who resides at No. 24, Akindiya St., Sango-Agege in Lagos state, is standing trial on a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse and destroying evidences at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The Prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 19 at the accused’s residence. Anyanwu said that the victim, a food vendor, was always a regular face at the accused person’s compound. He said the victim had, on the fateful day, gone to sell food and “the accused asked the victim to come and collect her plate in his apartment.
Police Arrest 9 Armed Robbery Suspects In Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said it had arrested nine armed robbery suspects around the metropolis, recovering two locally made double barrel pistols, charms and two Honda motorcycles.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said policemen attached to Ikeja Division, acting on information arrested three male suspects in their operational vehicle.
“The policemen had on Sunday at about 1 a.m. stopped a Mazda 323 car with registration number FKJ-21-DA along Opebi Road in Ikeja and recovered two locally made double barrel pistols. “The case is under investigation at the Department of Criminal Investigation in Yaba, Lagos,’’ the statement said.
Man Jailed For Reckless Driving
A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 33-year-old man, Solomon Adesola, to two months imprisonment for reckless driving.
Adesola, who resides at No. 23, Aransu Olu Agege St., Lagos, had pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency.
The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, did not give him option of fine, adding that it would serve as a deterrent to those who do not obey traffic rules.
Earlier, while reviewing the facts of the case, prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel of Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, told the court that the convict was arrested on April 24.
Street Clashes, Gunfire Erupt Again In Burundi
Government officials and politicians in Burundi have confirmed that protesters have again rejected President Pierre Nkurunziza, but have called for calm in the country. They said another round of street clashes and gunfire erupted again on Thursday in Bujumbura. Meanwhile, Nkurunziza in a state broadcast on Wednesday night, stressed the need for national unity, saying that Burundi’s bloody past, including a civil war that only ended in 2005 after the death of 300,000 people, could not be ignored.
He said “no Burundian wants to revive the tension of ethnic division or any other nature. “The blood that was spilt in the past has taught us a lesson,’’ Nkurunziza said. But government officials in Bujumbura said soldiers and police had continued to fire tear gas and warning shots in the air, as they faced off against scores of young men, throwing rocks and burning makeshift barricades in the roads.

35-Year-Old Man Strangles His Day Old Baby For Being A Girl
A 35-year-old man, Bello Rabiu has strangled his one day old baby and buried her body in his compound after she was given birth to by wife, Fatima Bello.
Rabiu resides in Dankwaro village of Charanchi LGA of Katsina State.
Rabiu got angry that the baby he eagerly expected to be a boy, turned out otherwise.

Assistant Superintendent Of Police Arrested On Rape Charges
The Assistant Superintendent of Police, Osiele Police Post, Abeokuta, Ogun State, John Mafoya has been arrested and is being interrogated at the state police command headquarters for allegedly raping a student of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, identified simply as Oluwaseun.
What happened was, on Thursday, April 30, policemen from the Osiele post arrested Oluwaseun for her involvement in a mob attack on a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps in the college, identified only as Oladimeji because he allegedly made sexual advances at a female student, who had visited him in his apartment in the Abule Obantoko area of Abeokuta.
It was gathered that the ASP allegedly took over the case and detained Oluwaseun, however, rather than interrogate her at the Police station, he allegedly drove her to his house in the Alanco area at about 7pm and that was where he allegedly raped her.
7-Year-Old Boy Eaten Alive By Crocodile In Mexico While His Father Helplessly Watches
7 year old Manuel Abraham had been playing with a balloon in the Barra Santa Ana estuary, Mexico, when it landed on the river bank.
He walked to the bank to pick the ball, as he bent down to get the ball, a crocodile leaped from the river, locked its jaws on Manuel’s head and dragged him underneath the river while his Dad watched in horror.
Members of the public rushed to the little boy’s aid, but the crocodile had disappeared.
Student Dies Just After He Slumped During School Excursion In Osun
Akinsiku Michael Timileyin (pictured above), a 400 Level student of English at the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) in Ondo State died at the Erin Ijesha waterfall in Osun State during an excursion by the Student Union Government (SUG) to the tourist site on Saturday May 16th.
According to some of his classmates, Akin, who is an indigene of Ondo state, suddenly slumped while they were taking a tour of the river. He was rushed to a medical center in the community where he was certified dead on arrival.
UCH Carries Out Mass Burial For Unclaimed Corpses
The University College Hospital, (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, has carried out a mass burial for many unclaimed corpses in its mortuary after running three adverts in the pages of newspapers at three different occasions with deadlines for the bodies to be claimed, when the mortuary became congested. But even after the adverts, no one still came forward to claim them.
According to the hospital spokesman, Deji Bobade, it is believed that most of the corpses were abandoned due to the culture that says that “parents should not bury their children.”
Buhari To Receive Handover Notes After Facilities Inspection On May 28
Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, says all handover notes being prepared by various ministries, agencies and department will be handed over to President elect, Gen Buhari immediately after his tour of the Presidential Villa which is to be conducted by President Jonathan and his vice, Namadi Sambo on May 28th.
Also on the tour will be with the Vice President elect, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. She said this while speaking to state house correspondents after the Federal Executive council meeting yesterday May 20th.

Journalist Arrested For ‘Collaborating’ With Boko Haram in Niger
The government of Niger has arrested a journalist, Moussa Tchangari for allegedly collaborating with Boko Haram men. The rights activist who is known for his outspoken criticism of the humanitarian crisis in southeastern Niger is said to be spreading false news against the government, reports say.
According to the Interior minister Hassoumi Massaoudou, AFP reports that Tchangari was arrested for spreading propaganda.
This man has been collaborating with Boko Haram for some time, and he is actively spreading propaganda and false news in liaison with Boko Haram. All his propaganda aims to show… that Niger’s defence and security forces are the criminals… (and) not Boko Haram, the minister explains.
20 Year-Old Secondary School Girl, Stabs Undergraduate Boyfriend to Death in Imo
Tragedy struck yesterday in Ubomiri community of Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State after a 20-year-old secondary school girl allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death with a kitchen knife.
It was gathered that the girl identified as Chisom Anyanwu, who hails from Umuawumi Ubomiri, murdered her 28-year-old lover simply identified as Abio, an undergraduate, in cold blood yesterday following an argument between the two.
Abio, a native of Egbeada in the same Mbaitoli Local Government Area, was said to have visited Chisom’s house late on Tuesday, and she became very angry as she had earlier cautioned the boy not
to visit her at home, as she would not like her elder brothers and sisters to see him.

President Jonathan Reveals Real Reason He Conceded Defeat
President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed why he conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 presidential election.
Jonathan said he conceded defeat because of his desire to keep the country away from conflict.
He explained that having been involved in solving many problems in African countries for over five years, he knew the enormity and cost of conflicts and would not want Nigeria to witness such. This was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.
The statement quoted Jonathan as speaking while receiving members of the African Ambassadors’ Group, who were on a farewell and solidarity visit to him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
BBC Apologises Over False Nigerian Resturant Cannibal Story
BBC has admitted that the story about human flesh being served in an Anambra restaurant is false.
They have also apologized for publishing the story.

AY Shuts Down MPV Lounge, Gives Reason For Action
It has been confirmed that after eight months of lavishing millions of Naira on his new club, MVP, top comedian, Ayo Makun, better known as AY, has temporarily shut it down.
The lounge, located in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, was opened with a colourful and glamorous party in September 2014 with several celebrities in attendance.
Speaking on why he closed the place, the rib-cracker explained that it was for him to re-strategize on how to run the business well.
Nine Killed In India Train Crash
At least nine people have been killed and 18 others injured when a tractor pulling a wagon loaded with people was hit by a train in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
The accident happened at an unmanned level crossing near the town of Bijnor.
The wagon was carrying people returning from a ceremony at a Hindu temple.
Man Docked For Allegedly Forging Uniport Document
The police on Wednesday arraigned one Innocent Igwe, of Port-Harcourt, Rivers, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and forgery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simon Lough, told the court that the accused in October 2014 conspired with a lawyer, now at large to forge a document bearing the name of University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
Lough, said that the accused tendered the forged document before a senior magistrates’ court in Wuse Zone 2 to deceive the magistrate.
He said that the document indicated that the accused was on admission at the said hospital.

VIO Not Permitted To Inspect Vehicles, Drivers’ Licences : FRSC
Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Monday, said that the corps would commence a crackdown on drivers who possess fake drivers’ license.
Most importantly, he explained that the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) were not permitted by law to inspect vehicle and drivers’ licences.
He said this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase. Oyeyemi explained that people who work with some elements to procure fake driver’s licence would not have a hiding place
He also appealed to the Inspector General for improved collaboration with the corps, especially in the areas of security, sharing intelligence and prosecution of offenders.
Pastor Caught With N609m Worth Of Hard Drugs At Lagos Airport
Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested the Resident Pastor of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim at Agodo-Egbe, Ikotun, Lagos, Prophet Michael Raji, over an alleged attempt to export of 174 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs worth N609 million to South Africa.
The NDLEA said on Wednesday May 20, 2015 that three international passports bearing different names were also recovered from him, even as a jeep was impounded during the operation.
According to the agency, a preliminary investigation allegedly indicated that the suspect was a member of a wanted drug syndicate operating in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.
The agency claimed that 60-year-old pastor had told investigators that he was lured to the crime by the devil.
Amaechi Collected N257.6bn From $20bn, Says Okonjo-Iweala
Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala yesterday insisted that out of the purported missing $20 billion, Rivers State received N257.6 billion from the Federation Account between January and October 2013, the second highest among the states, of which N56.2 billion from the Excess Crude Account was a part.
The Minister made this revelation in reply to the allegations that $20 billion was missing in the Federation Account.
According to her, not only was the amount not missing, Rivers State received N257.6 billion from the Federation Account between January and October 2013, the second highest among the states, of which N56.2 billion from the Excess Crude Account was a part.
27 Murdered As Killing Spree Continues In Plateau
At least 27 other persons were killed in Barkin Ladi Local Government Council of Plateau State in a two–pronged attack by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Monday and Tuesday nights.
The Council Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Loman, who was just at the mass burial of the 27 victims of the attacks, said on phone, that the massacre started in Ninji village where the Fulani went into the village and rustled cows belonging to the natives which was promptly reported to the police after they had killed seven people.
Loman said the police traced the Fulani where they were loading the cows into a truck and arrested the culprits.
Apparently upset by the arrest, the remaining Fulani reportedly regrouped and attacked Ropp, another village in Barkin Ladi, with sophisticated weapons, killing 20 other villagers, making it 27 all together.
Kano Drops Charges Against 14 Years-Old Suspected Killer Bride
Kano state Ministry of Justice has requested a Kano High Court to set free Wasila Tasiu, 14, arrested and docked for the alleged murder of her 35 years old husband and three other persons who ate from a poisoned meal dished out by her.
The state Attorney General had filed a four-count charge of culpable homicide, seeking for a death penalty for the accused.
But on Wednasday, Barrister Lamido Soron Dinki brought an application on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, urging the court to quash the allegations against Wosilat and set her free.

One Dies As NURTW Members, Traders Clash In Ekiti
There was pandemonium in the early hours of yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, where there was a free-for-all between members of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and some traders said to be of northern extraction.
The development paralyzed social and economic life of the city, as most shops and banks abruptly closed.
It was gathered that the clash left properties worth millions of naira vandalised.
Unconfirmed reports also had it that one unnamed person was feared dead.
Adeyemi College Of Education, Three Others Become Varsities
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the conversion of four federal colleges of education to universities.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the council presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki and Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, briefed State House correspondents of the meeting’s outcome.
Shekarau listed the affected colleges of education to include Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo (now Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo); Federal College of Education, Zaria (now Federal University of Education, Zaria); Federal College of Education, Kano (now Federal University of Education, Kano); and Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri (now Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri).

The minister explained that the colleges of education are part of the 21 federal colleges of education that had been awarding degree programmes in the last three decades under the close supervision of the different universities they had been affiliated to.
He said the council considered the need for further quality in the teaching profession, hence the conversion of the colleges to universities since more graduates would be needed as teachers.
“We are heading to having more graduates in the teaching profession and hence the need for these universities to produce graduates in education. If we need quality education, we need quality teachers,” he said.
Two Siblings Found Dead In Ibadan
The corpses of two siblings were discovered at House Number 13, Cele close, Agbowo, Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday.
They were identified as three-year-old Munachi, and Amarachi Ukoha, 16. They were found inside one of the eight rooms of the bungalow.
The mother, Chinoye Ukoha, said her son, Munachi, and her sister, Amarachi were living with her and complained of stomach disorder on Tuesday night.
She said after they complained she gave them some drugs and only to discover their corpses on Wednesday morning.
Village Headmaster Actor, Femi Robinson, Is DeaD
Veteran actor, Mr. Femi Robinson, popularly known as the Village Headmaster, for the role he played in the television series by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) by that title, died on Wednesday aged 75.
His death was made public by his two sons Seun and Wole Robinson, on his Facebook page.
The terse Facebook message read, “This is to notify you that we lost our father, Femi Robinson this morning - Seun & Wole Robinson (sons).”
Although the cause of his death was yet to be ascertained, reports said he probably died due to old age related issues.
