Meet America’s First Openly Gay Imam

 

He’s been condemned by other Muslim leaders, and some local imams have even refused to greet him. But Imam Daayiee Abdullah , believed to be the only openly gay imam in the Americas is proud of his story.

He was born and raised in Detroit, where his parents were Southern Baptists. At age 15, he came out to them. At 33, while studying in China, Abdullah converted to Islam, and went on to study the religion in Egypt, Jordan and Syria. But as a gay man in America, he saw that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Muslims had unmet spiritual needs and he became an imam to provide community support.

Student Cuts Teacher With Machete For Punishing His Girlfriend In Enugu


Tragedy struck in Alor Uno community of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State when a student of Community Secondary School, in the area identified as Ebuka attacked a classroom teacher with a machete leaving him with deep cut on his head for punishing his girlfriend.

The boy identified as Ebuka, intended to kill the male teacher but ended up giving him a serious machete cut on the head.

Ebuka was said to have sworn to deal with the teacher identified as Ike who punished his girlfriend for misbehaving in class.

Ebuka who was acting under the influence of alcohol and hard drug was said to have armed himself with a machete hidden under his cloth, beckoned on the teacher to come closer.

Ike sensing trouble attempted to flee for safety but was given a hot pursuit by Ebuka, who caught up with him in a classroom and dealt a serious machete cut on his head.

Well first I must confess I take vitamins for my skin and general health every morning and night, I drink warm glass of water first thing in the morning , sometimes two warm glasses of water, I scrub, steam, and mask my face two times a week , I put oil with or serum in my face cream, I clean every night especially when I hav make up on, I workout so I sweat to even clean my pores more! I wear less make up , I usually just put only lip stick and I'm good to go, I'm not a big fan of makeup anyway”

Caitlyn Jenner Makes Top 10 Of BBC's Most Powerful Women List


She's appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, was named as this year's Arthur Ashe Courage Award winner and now Caitlyn Jenner has made the BBC's list of most powerful women for 2015.

Jenner took the number seven spot in BBC Radio 4's 2015 Woman's Hour Power List, which identifies women who have had an "exceptionally large impact" on people's lives and an ability to influence others.

"Many news sources describe her as the most famous openly transgender person in the world," Jenner's entry on the list reads.

The list, which in a previous year was topped by the Queen, is decided by a panel of four judges who compile it based on who the most influential women "operating in the UK" are. They also take suggestions from the public as to who should be included.

Crow Hitches A Ride On Eagle Because Nature Is Awesome


 A brave crow has been photographed catching a free ride on the back of a bald eagle 25-feet in the air. The unusual moment lasted only a few seconds and was captured by amateur bird photographer Phoo Chan.

“At first I thought the crow was going to chase away the eagle," Chan says. "I was completely awed to see the crow actually land on the back of the eagle. They both flew in different directions and it looked like they became friends."

We're unsure if the crow genuinely wanted to become friends with the eagle or it took a bet from his bird buddies. Either way, the brave little daredevil has some massive bird cred coming to him when he returns home.

Photos From Vice President Osinbajo's Visit to Bomb Blast Victims In Maiduguri


Vice president Yemi Osinbajo visited Maiduguri the Borno state capital yesterday where he met and sympathized with the victims of Boko Haram bomb blasts. 

He met a number of the victims at the Dalori camp and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. 

The Vice President conveyed  a message of hope from the President to the victims and promised that the government will do everything possible  to put an end to terrorism in the country. 

Man Commits Suicide Over Failed Marriage


A father of four, who lived at Jiwa in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), last Saturday, committed suicide.

He allegedly drank a dangerous substance, suspected to be an insecticide after several attempts to bring back his wife, who left her matrimonial home along with their children.

Family sources said that the late Sunday Ogul, who hailed from Kogi State, parted ways with his wife about three months ago, during which he threw out her belongings at night after a misunderstanding.
He, however, became more worried recently when he unsuccessfully tried to bring her back from their village, the family source added.

A family member of the deceased, who did not want his name mentioned, explained that the deceased had visited his wife in their village to negotiate how she would return with their children. 
The source added that he gave her the sum of N10,000 for transportation from the village to Abuja. 
“When he came back, he sent additional N5,000 to her through a bank, and lastly, N15,000, all in an effort to bring her back. But all his efforts were in vein, as she had informed him that her parents did not give their approval for her return,’’ the source said.

Fani-Kayode Changes Name


Following his discharge and acquittal of money laundering charges on Wednesday by a Federal High Court in Lagos, a former Minster of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has changed his name.

Fani-Kayode, who read a prepared speech outside the courtroom shortly after Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia set him free, said his trial which began in 2008 had almost destroyed his life, his family and his reputation.

He said he would be changing his name by dropping his surname “Fani-Kayode” as a mark of honour and respect for the Lord and as a testimony of God’s love towards him.

He said, “The whole process almost destroyed my life, my family, my reputation, my health and my career. I thank God for His goodness, His mercy and for the fact that today the whole nightmare has finally come to an end.”
