Nigerian Woman Shot Dead By White Boyfriend


A 24-year-old Nigerian woman, Mariam Folashade Adebayo, has been shot dead by her white boyfriend in Germantown, Maryland, USA, reports Montgomery County Police.

The report has it that Adebayo and her 27-year-old boyfriend, Donald Wayne Bricker, had an argument at the parking lot of a Target retail store and the argument got out hand when Bricker pulled out a gun and shot at her before fleeing in a white pick-up truck.

Police received multiple 911 calls about the shooting and when officers arrived the scene, they found Adebayo unconscious and rushed her to a hospital where she battled to stay alive for a few hours before giving up the ghost.

Dutch Cyclists Arrive Nigeria


The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lagos, in collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy Office in Lagos on Wednesday received two Dutch Cyclists of the Building Bridges project who had embarked on a bicycle journey to Cape Town in South Africa.

The Cyclists, Jilt van Schayik, and Teun Meulepas, who are stopping over in Lagos, took off from Amsterdam in the Netherlands in February to connect and encourage young people across two continents of Africa and Europe, habouring 21 countries; a journey of about 17,000km.

Schayik and Meulepas arrived Lagos, Nigeria on Tuesday night in the company of the Togolese grassroots initiative for Building Bridges, and were received by their Nigerian counterparts.

Recounting the experience, Meulepas, one of the cross-continent bikers said: “So far so good, we had a great trip, we met a lot of inspiring people, we saw a lot of crazy things and we had a lot of fun on the road as well.

Pictures Of Kidnappers Arrested In Port Harcourt Today


A gang of kidnappers were this morning rounded up by members of a vigilante group this morning in Port Harcourt and were been mobbed by the angry crowd, if not for the early arrival of men of the Nigeria police force, they would've been roasted like "Aluu Boys".

The victim was kidnapped since last week but was rescued by the vigilantes.  Unfortunately for the kidnappers, the victim recognized the leader of the gang who raised an alarm that led to their arrest. 

The female member of the gang serves as informant and also takes care of feeding their victims. See more photos after the jump.

Ondo Policemen Kill Driver In Custody, Label Him Armed Robber


A member of the Ondo State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, identified as Gbenga Omolo, has died after being allegedly tortured by some policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state Police Command.

A source in the union told Punch on Wednesday that the 70-year-old man was arrested by SARS last Thursday following a misunderstanding between him and a police officer, whose name was not disclosed, leading to the duo engaging blows at the Arakale area of the town.

The source explained that the following day, the policeman, who fought with the motorist, mobilised six men of the SARS to arrest the deceased and some other people in the area and detained them in their custody, where Omolo was allegedly being tortured.

Woman Stabs Medical Doctor To Death In Lagos


A 36-year-old housewife, Mrs Obiageli Oriuwa, who stabbed a medical doctor, Ikechukwu Oriuwa, her husband’s younger brother, to death has been arraigned for murder at the State High Court, Igbosere, Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The mother of four was arraigned on Tuesday before Justice Raliatu Adebiyi of the State High Court following the report of Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.

The DPP report indicted Obiageli and directed her to face trial over the death of Ikechukwu. Obiageli was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri after she was charged before a Lagos Magistrates’ court and her file was sent to DPP for advice.

The outcome of the DPP advice indicted her for willful murder of Ikechukwu. Obiageli allegedly stabbed the 37-year old medical doctor to death at their family house at 52, Ladega Street, Ajegunle in Apapa, Lagos State during an argument between them last year.

Osinbajo Visits Petrol Tanker Fire Victims In Onitsha


The Federal Government has promised to assist the Anambra State Government in taking care of the victims of the Sunday petrol tanker accident at Asaba Park Upper Iweka that claimed the lives of seventy Nigerians.
This was disclosed by the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo at Asaba Park Upper Iweka Onitsha when he visited Anambra state on the instruction of the President Muhammadu Buhri, whom he said was unavoidably out of the country to commeserate with the Governor and people of the state.

“The Federal Government will look for areas of cooperation and necessary where it can assist the state to take care of the victims and other things that will footstall such future occurrences, it is a clearer way of identifying with the people” he said.

The Vice President first visited Toronto Hospital Onitsha, where the Chief Medical Directo,r Prince Dr Emeka Eze took him round to see the victims who were admitted in the hospita,l before proceeding on foot with him, the Governor of the State Chief Willie Obiano, and Senator Chris Ngige to the scene of the incident.

Gunmen Kill French Tourist, Shoot Wife In Ebonyi


Gunmen Tuesday night attacked a French couple, who were visiting Ebonyi State, killing the husband and injuring the wife.

The State Governor, Dave Umahi disclosed this in a meeting with staff and students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki.

He explained that the tourists got to Abaomege in Onicha Local Government Area of the state in the night from where they were planning to proceed to Calabar in Cross River State when they went into the bush and set their tent to rest.

Senate Passes Sexual Offences Bill, Endorses Life Jail For Rapists


Senate on Wednesday prescribed life imprisonment for rapists and other sexual offenders.

This followed the passage of the Sexual Offences Bill which prescribes life jail for sexual offenders including rape, child sex tourism and people who deliberately infect others with the Human Immuno Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS).

The Bill that was sponsored by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Chris Anyanwu, is expected to get the concurrence of the House of Representatives on Thursday.

The Bill also prescribed life imprisonment for gang rape and 10 years jail for Inbreeding and child pornography respectively or a fine of N2million. Other sexual offences would also attract 14 years jail term.

Police Arrest Fraudstar, 12 Others In Abuja


The police in the FCT have arrested a suspected fraudster and member of car theft syndicate on its wanted list, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, police spokesman in the territory, has said.

The suspect was among 12 other suspects presented to newsmen at the command on Wednesday.

Manzah said operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested the fraudster on May 28 at Gwagwa, adding that one Honda car with registration number YAB227AA was recovered from him.

He said the command recovered seven guns, one other stolen car, 18 Samsung cell phones, eight television sets among other items from the suspects.

Buhari’s Wife Didn’t Shut Down Her Abuja Spa


Contrary to a recent report that the First Lady has closed down her spa to take up her new role as Nigeria’s First Lady, her beauty parlour, Hanzy Spa in Wuse 2 is still fully functional.

According to Nigerian Times, a visit to the Spa on Tuesday unveiled the fact that the beauty parlour still functions as always.

Reports said her Kaduna Spa was shut down but failed to mention anything about its branch at No 17 Libreville, Off Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.

3 Feared Dead, 10 Caterpillars Burnt As Gunmen Invade Orient Petroleum Refinery


Three persons were feared dead and property worth millions of naira, including 10 caterpillars and houses, were destroyed when gunmen suspected to be from Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State invaded the facilities of the controversial Orient Petroleum Resources at Aguleri Otu in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The three dead persons were staff of the oil company, while several others injured in attack are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Orient Petroleum, commissioned by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, had been in dispute between the neighbouring communities in Kogi and Anambra states, with both sides laying claims to ownership of the oil rich land.

Man Docked Over Alleged $30,000 Fraud


A 47-year-old man, Abdullahi Ismaila Mubarak, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining $30,000 by false pretence.

The defendant, with no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of obtaining and stealing preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, E.I. Nnamonu, ASP, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on February 4, 2015, at Oke Odo pleasure, Abule- Egba, Lagos.

He said the defendant obtained the sum from Mrs.Temitope Kalejaiye  under the pretext of changing the dollars to naira which he did not do.

Court Remands Bankers In Prison Over Currency Fraud Which Began In 2011


As the trial of the officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and others commenced on Tuesday, the six staff of the bank implicated in an N8billion currency recycling scam, were  remanded in prison custody following their arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice N. Ayo Emmanuel of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The suspects: Patience Okoro Eye;  Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday;  Kolawole Babalola,  Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf, were arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

Of the said 22 suspects, six are said to be middle level officers of the CBN who have accordingly been dismissed or suspended while the remaining 16 are staff of  Zenith Bank, First City Momument Bank (FCMB), Wema Bank, Access Bank, First Bank, Skye Bank, Ecobank and Sterling Bank.

EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren said: “The apex bank employees were alleged to have compromised the CBN’s Briquetting exercise, meant to mop up mutilated and defaced higher denomination currencies from circulation, to combat inflation.

Five Confirmed Dead After Eating Dog Meat In Rivers


At least five persons have  been confirmed dead at Woji, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, after eating dog meat from a popular inn in the area.

The mysterious death has raised tension in the community as people have begun to question the tragic result that has followed the eating of dog meat alleged to have been cooked by one Friday Dickson, popularly called Etiaba.

Etiaba had been in the area for a long time, running an inn where he cooks only dog meat in Mini-Woji Road at Woji Town.

NDLEA Serves Kashamu Notice Of Extradition


The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday said it had served  a notice of application for extradition of the Ogun-east Senator-elect,  Buruji Kashamu, to the United States.

According to a statement by the Head, Public Affairs of the agency, Ofoyeju Mitchell, the application for the extradition was contained in an application made to the Chief Judge, Federal High Court, Abuja, in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/479/2015.

According to him, the office of the Attorney General of the Federation is seeking the extradition of Kashamu to answer alleged drug trafficking charges.

He noted that: “This is in line with the Extradition Act CAP, E25 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 (as modified by Extradition Act Modification Order, 2014). Mitchell added that the notice was officially served on Kashamu by the NDLEA on June 1, 2015.
