N.4m Indomie Fraudulent Deal Lands Woman in Prison

A 38-year-old business woman has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for defrauding another woman of a sum of N411,000 in an indomie noodle business transaction.

Omoyemi Bankole of Byazhin, Kubwa, was convicted for criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences contrary to Sections 322 and 312 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, told the court that one Omodere Chinonye, of Area 10, Garki, complained at a Kubwa Police Station of how she entrusted her indomie noodles to the accused, sometimes between March and August of last year, to sell and remit the proceeds to her.

He said the accused sold the items but fraudulently converted the sum of N411,000 to her personal use.

When the charges were read to the accused, she pleaded guilty and sentenced to eight months imprisonment by Judge Mohammed Marafa, with an option of N20,000 fine.

The court also ordered her to pay a compensation of N411,000.

Robbers Raid Abuja Transport Coy, Kill Policeman

At least one police officer lost his life, Thursday night, when a gang of robbers stormed the office of Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO) in Katampe, along Kubwa Expressway.

Mr Tunde Akintola, the company’s Head of Marketing and Communication, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that the gang of five armed robbers was armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.

Akintola said that, aside from killing the police officer, they also inflicted different degrees of injuries on some members of staff. “The unfortunate incident happened around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday night, when most staff members had closed for the day. “We had a few administrative personnel doing skeletal duties, as well as security personnel around the office. “The gang of about five robbers entered the company through the administrative gate and forced their way into the cash office, killing the policeman and injuring some other staff members in the process.’’

Akintola said that the company had yet to ascertain the degree of loss suffered as the matter was being investigated by the police. He, however, said that the loss could be minimal as the company did not handle cash on a large scale. “Maybe they thought that all our buses brought cash to the office at the end of each day; but that is not the case. “Our ticketing is handled by agents who pay directly into the company’s account every day, but that is not to say that we didn’t suffer any financial loss to the robbery. “We have imprest and some other contingency cash which were stolen, but no large-scale loss,’’ he said.

Akintola assured that investigation had commenced on the robbery, adding that a number of suspects were undergoing interrogation. He commended the Nigerian police for their prompt response, while commiserating with family of the deceased policeman.

Tension in Sabo-Wuse As Military Invade Community Over Colleague’s Death

Residents of Aso community in Sabo-Wuse, a settlement in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State have been fleeing the area following the invasion by military personnel, who came in protest against the killing of their colleague and his brother on April 11.

City News learnt that on that Saturday, a naval officer and his brother were allegedly killed in the community by people suspected to the commercial cyclist operators in the area. When City News visited the town yesterday, most of the houses and shops were locked, while few residents remained inside their houses.

Some of the community leaders in the area told our reporter that the late officer and his brother drove in a jeep on high speed to the community through Bwari-Ijah Gwari road in the evening of the said Saturday, when the results of governorship and house of assembly elections were being collated.
They alleged that the deceased had knocked down some villagers before reaching Sabo-Wuse, which made some motorcyclists to trail them.

“The villagers passed the information to others in Sabo-Wuse and they barricaded the road. The deceased’s vehicle knocked the barrier on getting there, forcing them to stop. They were immediately grabbed by the mob that was trailing them. The mob killed them and set their corpses ablaze,’’ one of the residents narrated.

Sabo-Wuse residents claimed that the incident happened when most of the people who live in the community were at the polling units.

City News learnt that a family member of the deceased got the notice of the incidence the following day, when a call was made to the officer’s mobile phone and was picked by one of the suspects, now in detention.

It was further learnt that military men in about 10 Hilux vans stormed the town the following day and made random arrests.

The village head, Malam Ibrahim Danladi Ango, who was rushed to the hospital two days later, was equally picked on Saturday morning along with three persons that were looking after him at the hospital.

Reacting, the Suleja Police Area Commander, Abubakar Yahaya, confirmed the incidence, adding that five people were arrested by the police and that investigation was ongoing over the incidence.

On his part, Chairman of Tafa Local Government Area, Ahmad Ya’u, who condemned the mob action, said while investigation is ongoing by the security men, efforts were being made by the council to calm the situation.

Dangote Sugar Refinery to Pay N4.8bn Dividend

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc recorded improved bottom line in 2014, despite the challenging operating environment.

The audited results of the company released, Friday, showed a profit after tax of N11.6 billion, up from N10.8 billion.

Based on the performance, the company’s directors have recommended dividend of N4.8 billion, translating into 40 kobo per share. The company ended the year with gross revenues of N94.9 billion, against N103.2 billion recorded in 2013, reducing  its operating expenses by 29 per cent from N 12.1 billion to N8.6 billion, while other incomes improved from N3.9 billion to N5.4 billion. Profit after tax settled at N11.6 billion, up from N10.8 billion in 2013.

During 2014, the primary focus of Dangote Sugar was primarily to enhance its operational efficiency, increase sugar production, and provide for the needs and requirements of its customers, employees and stakeholders.

Our performance in 2014 was impacted by operational challenges, including disruptions to the supply of natural gas (our primary energy source) to the Apapa refinery, currency depreciation and the challenges of the security situation in North-eastern Nigeria,” the company said.

The company said its targets included: Helping Nigeria to become self-sufficient in sugar production by moving from importation and refining to creating new plantations with their own refining facilities, close to major centres of demand, with a target to produce 1.5 million tonnes of refined sugar by 2024 across more than 150,000 hectares of newly planted land; provide economic benefits to local communities by way of direct and indirect employment and to set a good example in areas such as governance, sustainability, health and safety.

Couple Stabs 10-Year -Old Girl in Her Private Parts

A 10-year-old girl, Chidinma, has been admitted at an undisclosed hospital after a couple – Eucheria Chukwuma and Jerry Oko-Oboh – allegedly beat her up and stabbed her in the private parts with a broken bottle.

It was learnt that the couple and the victim’s family lived on Joshua Street, Agbabiaka, in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos. And that the couple assaulted the minor for allegedly fiddling with the vagina of their three-year-old daughter, Peace.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Chidinma, who denied the allegation, had played with Peace at about
7pm on April 6. It was alleged that the toddler later cried and told her parents that Chidinma fiddled with her private parts.

Angered by the complaint, 30-year-old Chukwuma, it was learnt, went to Chidinma’s mother, Ofia, demanding that Chidinma follow her to her room.

A few minutes later, Ofia reportedly heard her daughter screaming and rushed to Chukwuma’s apartment to see what was wrong.

On getting there, the door was said to have been locked by the couple who reportedly beat up the victim repeatedly with punches. Not satisfied, the wife allegedly stabbed Chidinma in the private parts and smeared them with pepper.

Punch was told that the couple fled the neighbourhood when blood started gushing from Chidinma’s vagina. They were later trailed and arrested by the police after the attack was reported at the Okokomaiko Police station.

The police said Chukwuma, in a statement she voluntarily made at the station, confessed to the crime, saying she became furious when the girl declined comments about Peace’s allegation.

She and her husband were subsequently arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on three counts bordering on assault.

The offence, according to the police prosecutor, Olusoji Ojaokomo, is punishable under sections 171, 243 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The charges read in part:

“That you, Eucheria Chukwuma, 30 and Jerry Oko-Oboh, 32 on April 6, 2015, at about 9pm on Joshua Street, Agbabiaka, Oke-Agbo, Ajangbadi, in the Ojo Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony and unlawfully assaulted one 10-year-old Chidinma, by beating her up with fist blows in her eye, which caused her harm.
That you, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Chindima by stabbing her with a broken bottle in her private parts.”

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, admitted them to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety each in like sum. He added that they be remanded in prison custody until their bail conditions were perfected.

The case was adjourned till May 13, 2015 for mention

'Anne Of Green Gables' Actor Jonathan Crombie Dies

Canadian actor Jonathan Crombie, who co-starred in the "Anne of Green Gables" TV movies, died last week at age 48.

Crombie died Wednesday from complications of a brain hemorrhage, "Anne of Green Gables" producer Kevin Sullivan said.

"It's a real tragedy to see someone at age 48 go like that," he said. "I will remember him as someone who worked extremely hard to make the roles he played onscreen come to life."

Based on Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery's children's books, "Anne of Green Gables" debuted in Canada on CBC TV in 1984 and became a cultural touchstone. The plot focused on the adventures of fiery orphan Anne Shirley, played by Megan Follows, who is sent to live on a farm in Prince Edward Island.

Crombie played Gilbert Blythe, who evolves over time from Anne's pigtail-tugging tormentor to friend to husband. Follows and Crombie reprised the roles in the sequels "Anne of Avonlea" (1987) and "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story" (2000).

Why Petrol Price Can’t Go To N40 Now -- IPMAN

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigerian, Mosimi, Ogun State has said that it would  be too difficult for the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to reduce the petroleum pump price to N40 per litre.

The association said the situation  in the industry could not allow such reversion, saying, it could however, be reversed to N87 per litre if the Federal Government builds refineries in some parts of the country.

The Chairman of IPMAN, in the state, Adeleke Bada stated this shortly after the association’s Annual General Meeting held in Abeokuta.

Bada, who was flanked by other members of the executive of the association, reacted to the advice given by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Tam David West to the President-elect to reduce the pump price to N40, said the price is not realistic.

He said “that is not possible, if you look at the nature of the market, that isn't realistic. Do we have the refineries?

“The only reason that can be possible is when we have our own refineries and we do not export our crude oil for processing. If the processing is done in Nigeria, then it can be sold at the rate of N40 but not until all the refineries are fixed,” he queried.

He however, blamed the non-compliance of sale of Premium Motor Spirit at the N87 stipulated price on the expenses incurred by the marketers while trying to get the fuel available for the use of the masses.

He said that the levies being paid by the marketers to various regulatory associations and unions have made the marketers to inflate the prices of fuel to their desired amount.

He said “that is why they do not want to leave IPMAN alone. The government has not increased the price of fuel, it is still N87 per litre.

“But by the time you get to the depot, after paying around N2.6m for your  ticket, a lot of levies are to be paid, levies from PTD, IPMAN and all others, adding them all together with the cost of transporting your trucks to the station, no one is ready to run at a loss.

“I even give them (marketers) kudos for selling the fuel because they do  not want the masses to suffer despite all these anomalies. That is why if you can afford to buy it at the prices they sell, then go on because we make use of it everyday.”

Bobbi Kristina is Awake -- Bobby Brown

Since Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in a bathtub on the 31st of January 2015, she has remained in a medically induced coma

However, her father, Bobby Brown told an audience on Saturday night that she is 'awake.'He said this while performing at the Verizon Theatre in Dallas when he told the stunned audience that  'Bobbi is awake. She's watching me.'

As the crowd went wild, he didn't elaborate on if she had regained consciousness or if he was talking instead about her spirit.

However, a family source tells People magazine

“As far as I know, there’s been no change,” the source said. “We're still hoping and praying that God will perform a miracle. We are leaving it in God’s hands.

Grant Presidential Pardon to Ibori, Ijaw Group Urges Jonathan

An Ijaw group, the Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI, in Delta State, weekend, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to grant presidential pardon to the former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, before his exit from Aso Villa, next month.

Mr. Austin Ozobo, in interactive with newsmen, said: “Chief Ibori has suffered enough and there is no justification for not granting him clemency, as had been done to others.”

Ozobo said Ibori was not the only corrupt leader in the country, but unfortunately, he has undergone indescribable hardship more than others.

“Ibori should be freed. Hundreds of persons, who looted heavily from government coffers are walking freely in the streets. The continuous incarceration of one corrupt man among a million other corrupt citizens cannot change the menace of high level corruption in the country.

‘’Ibori’s imprisonment could be seen as a witch-hunt and such is highly barbaric and provocative and the Nigerian government must quickly do something about his matter. ‘’Despite the ordeals Ibori is passing through, Deltans hold him in high esteem and his great achievements while in office cannot be discountenanced.

‘’There should be no sacred cow among political office holders. Ibori’s case is not different, he is a victim of circumstances. Release him and let him breathe fresh air and let other corrupt public office holders be tried as well.”

Drama as Nigerian Idol Judges Protest Eviction Outcome

Yinka Davies
The three celebrity judges on the on-going Nigerian Idol Season 5 show, Dede Mabiaku, Yinka Davies and Darey ‘Art’ Alade recently expressed their disappointment with the inability of some of the promising contestants on the show to make it to the top 12 phase of the competition.

The judges, all of whom watched in bewilderment as the quartet of Shayee, Modele, Sther and Classic Tunez failed to make the top 12 cut during the eviction show for top 30 Batch 2 contestants, were visibly jolted and caught gaping in disbelief as the contestants exited the stage one after the other.

The eviction show was designed with the double task of easing out some contestants while also ensuring the progression of the best performers, and so it appeared headed until Shayee, Modele and Sther lost out to Nex2 courtesy of superior vote count from the viewing public.

This drew the ire of the judges with some pockets of remonstration. They noted that Nex2 particularly had put up the worst performance during the Performance show and should not have merited a top 12 place.

“We don’t need to do any crap here,” retorted Dede when asked by Show host, Illryhmz, about his views on the results. He continued, “They have removed the top performers and then you want me to choose. I no choose, I am sorry. The worst performer last week is on the (top 12) chair. He knows that, he admitted (that) himself. So, what are we talking about when voting takes precedence over everything. We are supposed to be focusing on values here, but it’s been thrown overboard.”

Also speaking, Darey ‘Art’Alade expressed reservation over the inability of the voting public to toe the line of quality of performance.

His words, “Clearly, what we observe or what we thought was not so great in terms of performances as dictated by the likes of Brenda, Tama and Co is not what the audience think. So who are we?”

Meanwhile, the contestant at the centre of this, Nex2 has described his qualification for top 12 as an act of God, while admitting that he was shocked by the outcome.

He said, “I am in-between surprise and relief. In fact, I am so surprised because the judges last week gave me credit for my vocal ability that I was good but that they did not like the choice of song that I did at all and that affected my performance so I felt like I was not going to make it to the top 12, I did not have hope, but I had some encouragement from someone who encouraged me to go get votes. I got in touch with some friends who told me that I did not do badly, that I was energetic, I used the stage well. They also said that the performance was not really me, that I gave my best to the song. I think that was just it, they say it. I am just grateful to God, this is a shocker to me; God has really shocked me, this is not me doing this. So I am grateful to every person that voted for me.”

Nigerian Idol season 5 is aired on Saturdays and Sundays on major terrestrial and satellite TV Stations, including; NTA National  STV and TVC.

Nigerian Idol focuses on discovering Nigerian youths with talent in music and giving them a unique platform to take shots at stardom. The eventual winner goes home with N7.5 million cash reward, a brand new car, a recording deal worth N7.5 million with Universal Music label and some high-end devices.

Photo: Woman (Or Witch) Caught Defecating In A Pastor's Home

A woman who can only be identified by her surname, Mahlalela, from Ebatsakatsini near Komatipoort in South Africa was caught red handed by a child in the wee hours of this morning, in the kitchen, defecating in a bucket inside the house of the Word of God Church Pastor, Pastor Nsingwane.

The man of God says the way the woman got into his house remains a mystery as the doors and windows in the house were all shut and locked. When asked by the police what she was doing in the house, Mahlela told the police officer she was at the house to perform evil deeds on the family but she was caught, changing her earlier statement in which she’d claimed to be part of a team which works for a certain  master and that she fell off the rope she was holding on to when she and her 15 colleagues were flying.

"We use a rope to fly and I was sitting at the back when I fell off,” she said.

The village of Ebatsakatsini is a place created for people evicted from any of the 54 villages around Nkomazi after being accused of witchcraft

Islamic Terrorists Show Video Of Executions Of 30 Christians

The Islamic State jihadist group on Sunday released a video purportedly showing the executions of some 30 Ethiopian Christians captured in Libya.

The 29-minute video purports to show militants holding two groups of captives, described in a text on the screen as “followers of the cross from the enemy Ethiopian Church”.

A masked fighter in black brandishing a pistol makes a statement threatening Christians if they do not convert to Islam.

The video then switches between footage of one group of about 12 men being beheaded by masked militants on a beach and another group of at least 16 being shot in the head in a desert area.

It was not immediately clear who the captives were or exactly how many were killed.

Before the killings, the video shows purported footage of Christians in Syria explaining how they had been given the choice of converting to Islam or paying a special tax, and had decided to pay.

The video bore the logo of IS’s media arm and was similar to footage the group released in the past, including of a group of 21 Coptic Christians, mainly Egyptians, beheaded on a Libyan beach in February.

Several Libyan jihadist groups have pledged allegiance to IS, the extremist organisation that seized control of large parts of Syria and Iraq last year and declared an Islamic “caliphate”.

IS has carried out widespread atrocities and won the support of jihadist groups across the region.

Libya has been wracked by unrest since the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed dictator Moamer Kadhafi, with two opposing governments and armed groups battling to control its cities and oil wealth.

UN-backed efforts to form a national unity government have made little progress and officials have warned that Libya — awash with weapons after Kadhafi’s overthrow — threatens to become a haven for jihadists on Europe’s doorstep.

IS has persecuted minorities including Christians and its executions of the Egyptian Copts prompted retaliatory air strikes from Cairo.

Egypt called for an international intervention against the jihadists in Libya but Western diplomats expressed reservations, saying a political deal must be the priority.

A US-led coalition of Western and Arab nations is carrying out an air war against IS in Syria and in Iraq, where pro-government forces have managed in recent months to retake some territory seized by the group.

The group’s attacks have raised fears for Christians across the Middle East and been condemned by religious leaders.
