A 38-year-old business woman has been sentenced to eight
months imprisonment by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for defrauding another woman
of a sum of N411,000 in an indomie noodle business transaction.
Omoyemi Bankole of Byazhin, Kubwa, was convicted for
criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences contrary to Sections 322 and
312 of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, told the court that
one Omodere Chinonye, of Area 10, Garki, complained at a Kubwa Police Station
of how she entrusted her indomie noodles to the accused, sometimes between
March and August of last year, to sell and remit the proceeds to her.
He said the accused sold the items but fraudulently
converted the sum of N411,000 to her personal use.
When the charges were read to the accused, she pleaded
guilty and sentenced to eight months imprisonment by Judge Mohammed Marafa,
with an option of N20,000 fine.
The court also ordered her to pay a compensation of
N411,000.
