At least 400 girls have benefitted from the United Nations Children Fund UNICEF scholarship scheme and vocational training on various skills which began last year in Gombe, Alhaji Isa Yahaya, UNICEF Coordinator in the state has said.

He said 300 were schooling on UNICEF scholarship at the Federal College of Education (Technical), FCE (T), Gombe while the others who had hitherto been commercial sex workers were trained on different skills and supported with tools of the trade they learnt.

Kanayo, Kelechi and their  son
When Kelechi Ugo met Kanayo several years back at Comprehensive Secondary School, Amakohia in Imo State, she saw a young man with a promising future. She did not, in her wildest imagination, envisage that situations would make him harm her in any way. Unfortunately, the reverse turned out to be the case as her heartthrob ended up not only abandoning her but sold their two-year-old son for a paltry N300,000.

Narrating her ordeal, the 28-year-old catering apprentice said: “I met Kanayo while we were in secondary school in Imo State and we started dating. After our secondary education, we went our separate ways. As fate would have it, we became reunited in 2006 during the Christmas season and we continued from where we stopped. Later, I got pregnant for him and informed him and he accepted.

“While I was pregnant, he came to see my parents and informed them that he was responsible for putting me in the family way. After that, he never came back and I didn’t hear from him till I put to bed. Immediately I delivered, he started calling me, but I refused to pick his calls because I felt abandoned. But later, I began to pick his calls and pardoned him on the condition that he should come to my family and perform all the necessary things. But he never did, and that was why my family disapproved of our relationship."

Army Wife Jailed For Sex With 14-Year-Old Boy

The wife of an Army corporal who had sex with a 14-year-old boy she met while supervising school bus travel has been jailed for three years on appeal.

Caroline Salisbury, 28, from Suffolk, continued to groom a soldier’s son despite warnings to stay away from him.

She admitted having sex with him on four occasions and had been sentenced to a two-year suspended jail term.

The boy’s family argued the sentence was too lenient and three judges at the Court Martial Appeal Court agreed.

The original sentence was immediately replaced with imprisonment after the court heard she had sex with the boy on four occasions over three weeks in 2013.

She told the infatuated teenager not to tell anyone and, when the relationship came to light, claimed he had raped her and tried to delete messages they had exchanged by social media.

Salisbury had pleaded guilty in February to four charges of sexual activity with a child and was given the suspended sentence.

The boy’s family complained and the sentence was referred to the appeal court by Attorney General Jeremy Wright as being unduly lenient.

Sir Brian Leveson, sitting with Mr Justice Kenneth Parker and Mr Justice Stewart, said: “In our judgment, the very least sentence which could be passed is one of three years imprisonment.”
