Caitlyn Jenner Makes Top 10 Of BBC's Most Powerful Women List

She's appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, was named as this year's Arthur Ashe Courage Award winner and now Caitlyn Jenner has made the BBC's list of most powerful women for 2015.

Jenner took the number seven spot in BBC Radio 4's 2015 Woman's Hour Power List, which identifies women who have had an "exceptionally large impact" on people's lives and an ability to influence others.

"Many news sources describe her as the most famous openly transgender person in the world," Jenner's entry on the list reads.

The list, which in a previous year was topped by the Queen, is decided by a panel of four judges who compile it based on who the most influential women "operating in the UK" are. They also take suggestions from the public as to who should be included.

Crow Hitches A Ride On Eagle Because Nature Is Awesome

 A brave crow has been photographed catching a free ride on the back of a bald eagle 25-feet in the air. The unusual moment lasted only a few seconds and was captured by amateur bird photographer Phoo Chan.

“At first I thought the crow was going to chase away the eagle," Chan says. "I was completely awed to see the crow actually land on the back of the eagle. They both flew in different directions and it looked like they became friends."

We're unsure if the crow genuinely wanted to become friends with the eagle or it took a bet from his bird buddies. Either way, the brave little daredevil has some massive bird cred coming to him when he returns home.

Photos From Vice President Osinbajo's Visit to Bomb Blast Victims In Maiduguri

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo visited Maiduguri the Borno state capital yesterday where he met and sympathized with the victims of Boko Haram bomb blasts. 

He met a number of the victims at the Dalori camp and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. 

The Vice President conveyed  a message of hope from the President to the victims and promised that the government will do everything possible  to put an end to terrorism in the country. 

Man Commits Suicide Over Failed Marriage

A father of four, who lived at Jiwa in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), last Saturday, committed suicide.

He allegedly drank a dangerous substance, suspected to be an insecticide after several attempts to bring back his wife, who left her matrimonial home along with their children.

Family sources said that the late Sunday Ogul, who hailed from Kogi State, parted ways with his wife about three months ago, during which he threw out her belongings at night after a misunderstanding.

He, however, became more worried recently when he unsuccessfully tried to bring her back from their village, the family source added.

A family member of the deceased, who did not want his name mentioned, explained that the deceased had visited his wife in their village to negotiate how she would return with their children. 

The source added that he gave her the sum of N10,000 for transportation from the village to Abuja. 

“When he came back, he sent additional N5,000 to her through a bank, and lastly, N15,000, all in an effort to bring her back. But all his efforts were in vein, as she had informed him that her parents did not give their approval for her return,’’ the source said.

Fani-Kayode Changes Name

Following his discharge and acquittal of money laundering charges on Wednesday by a Federal High Court in Lagos, a former Minster of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has changed his name.

Fani-Kayode, who read a prepared speech outside the courtroom shortly after Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia set him free, said his trial which began in 2008 had almost destroyed his life, his family and his reputation.

He said he would be changing his name by dropping his surname “Fani-Kayode” as a mark of honour and respect for the Lord and as a testimony of God’s love towards him.

He said, “The whole process almost destroyed my life, my family, my reputation, my health and my career. I thank God for His goodness, His mercy and for the fact that today the whole nightmare has finally come to an end.”

New Photos of Dapo Adaralegbe, Now Stephaine Rose

Many who knew Dapo Adaralegbe in the late 1990s and early 2000s in Obafemi  Awolowo University have been wondering over what might have become of him. He was well known to be a homosexual back then on campus. He never dressed as a male and most girls on campus agreed that he was an expert in the use of cosmetics. 

Though his father was a Professor in Obafemi Awolowo University, Dapo was expelled from the university in 2001 over his identity crisis as most of his lecturers could not stand a male student in the Faculty of Law wearing make up and coming to class in mini skirts and other female outfits. 

He could have passed unnoticed but his weird styles often attracted attention to him. His braids usually reached his backside and when he chose to wear weave on, they were odd colours thus earning him second and third looks.

Chibok Girls Abductor Arrested

Nigerian troops have arrested a businessman accused of "participating actively" in Boko Haram's mass abduction of nearly 300 schoolgirls from the northeastern town of Chibok last year, Nigeria's Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

Spokesman Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade said Babuji Ya'ari headed a "terrorists' intelligence cell" for the Islamic extremists while masquerading as a member of the self-defense Youth Vigilante Group. That confirms suspicions that the vigilantes have been infiltrated by Boko Haram. Soldiers have told the AP that some of their comrades also belong to Nigeria's homegrown Islamic extremist group.

"The arrest of the businessman has also yielded some vital information and facilitated the arrest of other members of the terrorists' intelligence cell who are women," Olukolade said in a statement Tuesday night. He did not say when the arrests were made or how many people were arrested.

Indonesia Plane Crash Death Toll Rises To 141

Indonesian officials say 141 bodies have been recovered after a military transport plane crashed in a residential area of Medan on Tuesday.

The military says none of the 122 people on board the Hercules C-130 survived when it hit houses and a hotel before bursting into flames.

Many of the victims are thought to have been relatives of servicemen and women.

But the latest death toll indicates there were at least 19 people killed on the ground.

The BBC’s Alice Budisatrijo in Jakarta says the military has repeatedly revised the passenger list, a sign of how loosely the military keeps track of who gets on its planes.

It is also investigating whether some of those on board were paying passengers which is not permitted, she adds.

Jilted Man Bathes Ex-lover With Acid In Lagos

Police detectives in Lagos have arrested a man for allegedly bathing his former lover with acid after she jilted him. Although nobody was sure that the person who bathed the victim, Rosemary Nanaifa, with acid was her former lover, but the lady said she was sure. 

According to Nanaifa, 23, her former lover, Paul Nwokobia, whom she dated for five years, had repeatedly threatened her since she dumped him. She said she never knew he would go to the extent of bathing her with acid.

Speaking from her hospital bed at the Female Surgery, Ward B, University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos, Nanaifa, a caterer, said the incident happened on June 3, around 8pm. The matter was reported at Itire Police Division.

She said: “I was at work one day when a private number called me around 4pm.

Housewife Dies In Lover’s Custody In Lagos

There was confusion on Monday at Ejigbo, after a housewife, Mrs Joy Bakare, impregnated by her secret married lover died in her lover’s custody after she gave birth to twins in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The incident happened at Aya-Oye Street, Ejigbo, Lagos where her lover simply called Fatai kept her after she became pregnant for him.

Fatai took the late Joy from her matrimonial home to a single mother’s apartment in Ejigbo after she became pregnant for him.

Joy already had three children from her estranged husband who resides in Sururere area before she became pregnant for Fatai who resides at Abaranje in Ikotun area.

Fatai is also married and has children but did not reveal the relationship with Joy to his wife until the incident happened on Monday.

To cover up the shame after the late Joy became pregnant, she relocated her to the house of the single mother where she eventually gave birth to the twins, a baby boy and a girl.

Osun Begins Payment Of Salary Arrears

The Osun State government has begun the payment of eight-month salary arrears to civil servants and pensioners.

Media aide to Governor Rauf Aregbesola Semiu Okanlawon confirmed this to reporters in Osogbo, the state capital.

He said the government  paid the balance of November salary to workers on Grade Level 15 and above as well as full salary for December to all workers.

The government announced a 50 per cent cut in salaries and allowances of  political office holders.

“Since the inception of this government, we have treated the resources under our control with utmost respect and disbursed them diligently for the benefit of our people.

“Our mandate had always been to use our God-given wealth to bridge the gap between the downtrodden and the government.

“It is very unfortunate that we find ourselves unable to pay our workers for several months when, in the past, we stood for paying on or before 25th of each month. We thank the ever gracious and understanding workers of our state for their patience as we go through this most trying time.

NSCDC Arrests Prostitute Over Child Trafficking In Ondo

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Ondo State has arrested a suspected prostitute, Su­san John, and six others over alleged child traffick­ing.

The suspects were appre­hended at a brothel, Royal Crown Hotel, in Akure, the state capital.

Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the command, Kay­ode Balogun, yesterday said at a press briefing that Susan was nabbed after trafficking a victim, Faith Ekepeme­phia, from her hometown in Akwa Ibom State to Akure for prostitution.

He disclosed that the com­mand got to know about the incident when some church members came to report the act.

New Islamic Sect Emerges In Kebbi

There are indications that a new Islamic group with ideology similar to Boko Haram sect has appeared at Gwadangwaji, the outskirts of Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi state. The sect known as “Yanlabaiku” is said to be having  about 100 members, which for now is non-violent and is conducting public preaching, meetings and processions. 

The followers are also called ‘Yanlokoloko’ which is one of the names of one of its founders, Ismaila Lokoloko, who is assisted by one Bala Amadu. The group has a slogan that puts belief in their Sheikh above God. 

Yanlokoloko are also said to eagerly share their wives to spend the night with their important visitors particularly scholars from the group. Some sources said that the followers have contact with Boko Haram insurgents. A source revealed that the sect criticized the five daily prayers and the number of the raka’a’s . where they are to pray five raka’a they pray two saying that sheikh will complete the remaining for them this he said is synonymous with the teachings of the sect sacked from Niger State, while the Boko Haram is known to oppose Western education.

BVN: CBN Extends Registration To October 31

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday extended the deadline for the Bank Verification Number registration by four months from June 30 to October 31, 2015.

The central bank disclosed this in a circular issued to all Deposit Money Banks operating in the country.

The circular dated Tuesday, June 30, 2015, with reference number BPS/DIR/GEN/CIR/02/008, was signed by the Director, Banking and Payment Systems Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun.

The CBN stated in the circular that the extension of the deadline became necessary in order to give customers of DMBs more time to participate in the enrolment exercise.

It added that since the registration exercise had elicited a lot of interests from customers who had been crowding banking halls in the last few days, there was a need to extend the deadline so as to ensure a smooth completion of the registration process.
