Police Recover Ammunition Hidden In Bush, Nab Two Cultists In Enugu

The Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Enugu State Police Command, on Sunday, recovered 387 rounds of 9mm live ammunitions and 10 live cartridges concealed by unknown persons in black polythene bags in a bush within Nwosu Terrace, Ogui, Enugu.

The ammunitions were recovered following a tip off to the police by an unnamed person.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, who disclosed this in a press release, said that the SARS operatives recovered the arms on Saturday after they were tipped off during their routine township patrol.

“The Nigeria Police Enugu State in its bid to ensure that the entire area is made safe and secured on 6/6/15, through its operatives of special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) acting on a tip off during their routine township patrol and raid of suspected hideouts of hoodlums, recovered three hundred and eighty seven rounds of .9mm live ammunitions and ten live cartridges concealed in black polythene bags inside a nearby bush within Nwosu terrace axis of Ogui Enugu,” the PPRO said.

He said that a full scale investigation had commenced to ensure that the suspects were apprehended.
In another development, operatives of SARS have nabbed a man in Obeagu Ugwuaji Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, over his alleged involvement in cultism and other nefarious activities.

He said that the suspect was nabbed around Ugwuaji axis of the state by the operatives who were on the trail of a vehicle allegedly snatched from its owner at Abakpa Nike on Sunday.

“The suspect is helping the operatives in their investigations as he has revealed that he is a member of Bukinafaso (BF) Confraternity  also known as ATABO Bukinafaso,” he said, adding that the suspect further revealed how he joined the fraternity in 2011 at Aba.

According to him, ‘‘I joined Bukinafaso Confraternity in 2011 at Aba through a friend and later became the leader of the cult group also known as the capo.’’

He disclosed that while in Enugu, he was a butcher by profession at Ogbete Market, Enugu and that most of his cult members were from Ugwuaji and some parts of Enugu but claimed that he was no longer the capo in Enugu.

He told the operatives that one TIMAYA, whom he identified as a student of one of the tertiary institutions in Enugu, is the current leader of the cult group.

“Suspect is begging for forgiveness saying he was forced into joining the cult group by a friend,” the Police spokesman said.

He also said that one Emmanuel Amegbo, said to be 20 years old, also known as CJ, who is  an under graduate of National Open University, had been nabbed by SARS operatives in Enugu for cult activities.

According to the police, the student, who is a native of Amechi Uno in Awkunanaw Enugu, was said to be a member of JVC Confraternity otherwise known as Junior Bagger cult.

“According to Emmanuel, he joined cultism in the year 2015 during the day of his matriculation at National Open University Enugu as a friend took him out for clubbing at Independence Layout, Enugu from the matriculation ground, regretting that he joined cultism against his father’s advice,” the PPRO said.

He was nabbed by the SARS operatives on Sunday as he was keeping vigil and directing some members of the cult group to the venue of cult initiations at Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji.

According to the suspect, one Ifeanyi lured him into becoming a cult member and also warned him not to reveal his membership to any person, including his father, otherwise he would be killed.

“Ifeanyi, a graduate of one of the State-owned Universities, was apprehended when the operatives struck at the venue of the initiation where they recovered a Toyota Camry with registration number DBR 393 AA believed to have been snatched from the owner at Abakpa together with some phones, three cartridges, some wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, two unregistered motorcycles, one face mask. Investigations have already commenced in full scale,” said Amaraizu.
