China Sentences 14 Cult Members Who Say Jesus Has Been Reincarnated

A total of 14 members of a Chinese religious cult have been jailed for up to three years, state media said Sunday, the latest sentences after two members were executed this year for killing a woman.

Nine members of the banned Quannengshen group were convicted of “undermining the implementation of laws by making use of cult organisations”, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing prosecutors in the central province of Hubei.

The sentences ranged from 18 months to three years, the agency quoted local authorities as saying on Sunday.

It added that on Saturday a court in the northeastern province of Liaoning sentenced five cult members to prison terms of two or three years.

The agency said the punishments were for “spreading cult propaganda”.

Followers of Quannengshen, whose name can be translated as Church of Almighty God, believe that Jesus has been reincarnated as a Chinese woman — the wife of the cult’s founder.

The organisation appeared in the 1990s and the founder and his wife fled to the United States in 2000, Xinhua said.

Idoko was withdrawn for failing a re-sit.

A student, who spoke to one of our correspondents on telephone on condition of anonymity, said they believed that Idoko took his life because he could not bear the news that his 10 years in medical was in vain.

Reasons Why I Allowed Abacha To Arrest Me - Obasanjo Reveals

Some of you might remember that former Head of State, Olusegun Obasanjo was among other top politicians who openly stood against the administration of the late military head of state -- General Sanni Abacha.

Abacha was quick to order the arrest, trials and sentences of all those who stood against him.

According to Leadership, Obasanjo in his new controversial book, ‘My Watch’, narrated how a group, National Unity Organisation was formed.

It came into existence to frustrate Abacha to leave power.

Obasanjo said Abacha “was so much below average as an officer that no serious attention was paid to him until he was made to announce the coup”.

“I was not in doubt that Abacha would attempt to silence me. This was clear from his apparent ambition for life presidency of Nigeria in insatiable appetite for corruption; his looting directly from the Central Bank; his need to silence everyone that could oppose him in any form; his actions towards my close friends and associates and his close surveillance of me by his security both within and outside Nigeria.”

President Buhari, had during a question and answer session with journalists in the US on July 22, said, “(Going by election results), constituencies that gave me 95 per cent cannot in all honesty be treated, on some issues, with constituencies that gave me five per cent. I think these are political realities. While, certainly there will be justice for everybody but the people who voted, and made their votes count, they must feel the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place.”
