1000 To Benefit From Free Cataract Surgeries As Lions Club Partners Eye Foundation

As part of its project for the 2015/2016 calendar year, the Lions District 404A-1 has finalised plans to partner with an eye foundation to undertake one thousand cataract surgeries. This was revealed by the newly elected District Governor, 404A-1, Lion Patricia Udeme recently while speaking to newsmen in Lagos.

According to Lion Patricia Udeme “this year Lion’s, shall not take on any new single signature projects rather we shall support clubs in their pursuit of excellence undertaking good projects, based carefully undertaken needs assessment analysis which shall touch lives of a lot more people spread across the district.

We shall key into the established global service initiatives of the lions club international especially those which impact sight preservation, youth and children, alleviation of hunger and protection of our environment. We are working through our clubs to continue the delivery of humanitarian service in some key areas like eye surgeries;

Lions already have a partnership with the eye foundation to undertake 1,000 cataract surgeries. We are expanding our drive in this regards with this year another partnership with the eye hospital in Warri, Delta state to undertake 500 more cataract surgeries and implement the grafting of corneas. The focus of this new partnership will be on vulnerable groups especially children and elderly.

District Governor, 404A-1 also noted that members’ welfare would be key, as we shall begin our charity this time at home. This year we shall attempt to strike a balance between the needs of our members and that of our community. This, we hope will encourage them to be more committed.

Appreciating the fact that we are all wired differently Udeme said that everyone comes with different gifts and talents. What we do in Lions club is to harness these gifts and talents pulling them together so that there is a synergy as clubs work together in harmony. More can do better what one can do well. So we are constantly inviting quality people together to join us in serving humanity”.

Expanding the frontiers of service this fiscal year, globally lions are implementing the Lions quest program at equipping adolescent with kids for life. It is a curriculum based program and we have commenced the pilot implementation in Lagos state and will expand the program to other states in the district. Efforts in this regards have been on training the teachers who will deploy the curriculum resources.
