The Ogun State Police command has said a suspected baby thief, Titilayo Adebola, is not a trained nurse, but a trado-medical midwife.
It added that that the suspect name was Mrs. Adebola Adebowale, and not Titilayo Adebola that she gave to the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Monday said checks made at the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives proved that Adebowale was a fake nurse.
The suspect was arrested at Arogun Village, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state for allegedly stealing a newborn baby.
She allegedly took the baby away immediately after delivery, and told the mother that she had a stillbirth.
However, after the woman got the information that her baby did not die, but was stolen by Adebowale, she reported at the Ewekoro Police Division, and the suspect was arrested.
“This was revealed and established after the police investigators in the case visited relevant government and professional bodies in the state to ascertain the status of the suspect.
“Further investigation has revealed again that the suspect is Mrs. Adebola Adebowale, and not Titilayo Adebola.
Adejobi said Adebowale and her new husband, Alhaji Ologbenla Adebowale,a surveyor, had christened the stolen baby Malik Adeyemi Adebowale, at a well celebrated ceremony in Ifo, Ogun State.
He also said the suspect was based in the Meiran area of Lagos State before she relocated to her unregistered maternity home, Amazing Grace, in Ifo, two years ago.
He said the suspect, a mother of seven children, had issues with her initial marriage and got married to a new husband, who she wanted to have a baby for.
