Man Takes Vacation From Being Human, Becomes Goat

Some people use their vacation time to go to Disney World. Thomas Thwaites used his to become a goat.

Having commissioned prosthetic limbs in order to make the experience more authentic, the England-based designer lived among a goat herd for three days in September 2014. An exhibition of Thwaites' work with the goats will be made available to the public in London next month.

Thwaites told Mashable in an email that the project came out of a desire to simplify his life; to take a vacation from his problems.

"My goal was to take a holiday from the pain and worry of being a self-conscious being, able to regret the past and worry about the future," he said.

Aside from the prosthetics, Thwaites prepared by studying the cognitive and physical aspects of what it's like to literally be a goat. He visited a behavioral psychologist and neurologist to study "turning off" parts of his brain in order to think more like a goat. He spoke to an expert in animal locomotion to nail down their movement. Even further, he met with a biologist to see about making an artificial rumen (a part of the goat's stomach) in order to digest grass.

Commercial bus drivers and sympathizers, yesterday, continued their protest against the killing of a bus driver, David Legbaraa, on Friday, by a policeman at Whimpy Junction in Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers State.

A policeman, identified as Sergeant James Imhalu, had allegedly shot dead the bus driver after ordering him to park  from the road. It could not be confirmed if the driver did not comply with the order  before the policeman opened fire.

The protesters barricaded the ever busy Ikwerre Road, yesterday, causing a gridlock that spilled over to the Rumuokoru portion of the East West Road.

They set disused tyres on fire at the Whimpy end of Ikwerre Road, denouncing the action of the policeman. The police battled for several hours to clear the road, firing tear gas.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Ezike, condemned the action of the police sergeant, saying he had been arrested and full scale investigation was ongoing.

Italy Arrests Five Over Human Trafficking, Murders

Italian police have arrested five men accused of multiple murders and human trafficking following a deadly shipwreck off the coast of Libya which left more than 200 people feared drowned.

Two Libyans, two Algerians and a Tunisian, ranging in age from 21 to 24, were placed under formal arrest on Friday in Palermo after being questioned on Thursday.

Police had earlier mistakenly identified the Tunisian as a Libyan.

Testimony revealed how the suspects had allegedly beaten and stabbed passengers during the perilous crossing, locking many people in the ship’s hold.

Police said the accused men charged the migrants between $1,200 and $1,800 for the voyage, depending on where they would be placed on the deck of the boat. Those in the hold paid about half as much as those above, they added.

The overcrowded vessel was believed to have had more than 600 migrants onboard when it began the perilous journey across the Mediterranean, before getting into trouble and overturning on Wednesday.

Buhari, Obasanjo Meet In Aso Rock

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday evening visited President Muhammadu Buhari inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The two leaders met for a few minutes behind closed-doors inside the official residence of the President.

Obasanjo, decked in blue agbada and a cap to match, arrived in Aso Villa after the day’s work when the President had returned from his office.

The President’s residence is not open to journalists except on special occasions.

Obasanjo must have decided to act on his knowledge of the Presidential Villa to visit the President at that time, away from the curious eyes of reporters.
