The recently rescued 275 women and children from the
clutches of Boko Haram in Adamawa State are free of HIV/AIDS, according to an
official of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
.
Ms Ruth Ugwu, a Nursing staff with UNICEF at the internally
displaced persons (IDPs) camp in Malkohi, Adamawa State, disclosed this to the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola, on Thursday.
Ugwu said that their clean health status followed medical
screenings and health rehabilitations conducted on the victims.
The nurse confirmed that after intensive medical check-up at
the camp clinic, the victims were found HIV/AIDS negative.
"Both rescued women and the children, after several
health screening, the result available is that they are free of HIV/AIDS.
"The only illnesses we noticed among them, especially
the children, are malnutrition and eyes problem," Ugwu said.
