Two persons lost their lives after a car plunged into a
river, last Friday, at Sensenyi village, on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
A 4-year-old boy and three others
survived the accident as they were rescued by some fishermen.
A witness said the accident happened around 3:34 pm when the
driver of a Nissan car with registration number XC 295 WRR, lost control of the
wheels on a bridge fell into a river.
According to him, the driver and a passenger sitting in
front died on their way to the hospital.
“Luckily, when the car fell inside the river, there are some
men that were fishing at the river bank. These men rushed to rescue the victims
with their canoe but on the way to the hospital, the driver and one of the
passengers died,’’ he said.
City News learnt that the surviving victims were taken to
the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, where the corpses were also deposited.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Koton-Karfe unit
commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) over the accident were not
successful but an officer at the command confirmed the accident.
He said that before FRSC officials got report of the
accident, the victims were rescued by sympathisers and taken to a hospital at
Lokoja.
In another incident, three persons were also injured in
another motor accident which occurred on Friday afternoon at Kwaita village, on
the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
The Yangoji unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps
(FRSC), Assistant Commander Jeremiah M. Fada, who disclosed this to our
reporter, Sunday, said the accident happened around 3:37 pm.
According to him, the accident involved an unmarked Pajero
jeep, which had its tyre punctured and crashed into a ditch, saying the victims
were taken to Kwali General Hospital.
