It was very emotional for Taylor Swift as she received a
country music award from her mother who is being treated for cancer.
Swift was
one of seven recipients of the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award, at the Academy
of Country Music (ACM) ceremony in Texas. Introducing her daughter to thousands
of screaming fans at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Andrea Swift fought
back tears. “I’ve watched this Milestone artist, from the time she was a
tangle-haired little girl, growing up on our farm, full of imagination and
creativity, until right now as she prepares for her next world tour. “I am a
very proud mum. To the fans, I know you love her as I love her, and for that I
thank you eternally.”
Then, to thunderous applause, she went on: “It’s my
pleasure, my duty and my joy to introduce my daughter, Taylor Swift.” Swift
took to the stage and thanked the audience for understanding her decision to
switch from country music and to experiment with pop music. She released her
first full-blown pop album, 1989, last year. “Somebody once told me that you
truly see who a person is when you tell them something they don’t want to
hear,” Swift said. “You truly see who a person is when you give them news that
they weren't expecting. And so to the country music community, when I told you
that I had made a pop album and that I wanted to go explore other genres, you
showed me who you are with the grace you accepted that with. I will never
forget it.”
The seven-time Grammy Award winner revealed earlier this month that
her mother has been diagnosed with cancer and urged fans not to put off checks.
