Pop star Miley Cyrus and model Patrick Schwarzenegger, son
of actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and broadcast
journalist Maria Shriver, have broken up.
E! News said Monday that after five months of dating, Cyrus,
22, and Schwarzenegger, 21, were choosing to take time off from each other. But
a source confirmed to PEOPLE the couple have broken up and that the split is
amicable.
The move comes after photos surfaced last month showing
Schwarzenegger and another girl getting
extra close during his vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
''The scandal did its damage,” an insider said. “They both saw sides of each
other they weren’t pleased with but they were trying to make it work.”
Cyrus and Schwarzenegger were last spotted out together on
April 2 grabbing food at Los Angeles eatery Hugo’s. At the time, a source said
that Cyrus had forgiven Schwarzenegger after he “begged for forgiveness” but
that Liam Hemsworth's ex-fiancée “doesn't put up with crap from guys."
