As a means of encouraging National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to engage themselves in agricultural activities, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Council of Kwara State has directed the council’s secretary to provide farmland to corps members serving in the area.
The chairman of the council, Alhaji Alhassan Bagudu disclosed this in Kaiama while receiving the 2015 Batch “A” corps members posted to the council, charging them to key into the agriculture project.
He said the council would provide machineries to ensure that at least maize is harvested from the farm within the next couple of months.
He said that the council’s department of agriculture has been directed to provide interested corps members with tractors and other farm inputs.
“I have to tell you that you are corps members of change, corps members of destiny because you are coming at a time that change is taking place. I was a corps member like you some years back. So, feel free to come to me for everything you need.”
The chairman, who also guaranteed the safety of the NYSC members in the council, described Kaiama people as very receptive and accommodating.
He said that agriculture remained a veritable driver of any economy, adding that fact informed the council’s decision to set up the farm for corps members.
Bagudu urged the corps members to show interest in farming, saying “it is a big business that cannot be trivialised.”
