An Abuja Grade 1 Area Court A has sentenced one Abdulahi Akim to one month imprisonment for stealing recharge cards at a shop in Dutse in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
The accused, who lives in Dei-dei, was convicted for joint act, criminal trespass and theft, offences contrary to Sections 79, 248 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Danjuma Abdulahi, told the court that the complainant, Patricia Akamlu of Dutsen- Alhaji, on May 26, reported at the Dutsen- Alhaji police station of how the accused and others now at large, trespassed into her shop at Dutsen- Alhaji and made away with her recharge cards of different networks worth N16,300.
He said the accused was caught right inside the shop with the sum of N3,500 and some of the recharge cards recovered upon search, while his partner escaped.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and Judge Mohammed Marafa sentenced him to one month imprisonment with an option of N6,000 fine.
The court also ordered him to pay a compensation of N16,000.
