Newly-appointed Commandant-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abdullahi Muhammadu, yesterday took over the reins of the outfit, assuring that he would work towards improving the legacies of his predecessor, Dr Ade Abolurin.
At a hand-over ceremony in Abuja, Muhammadu thanked the former Commandant-General for his immense contribution to the corps. He, however, declined further comments, saying he would outline his policy-document in the next few days.
Earlier, recounting the history of NSCDC, Abolurin said he met only 9,000 personnel when he was appointed in 2005.
This figure, he said, has risen to 59,000 highly-motivated and academically sound personnel.
He urged senior officers of the corps to shun greed and give opportunity to their subordinates to excel.
Appointed in 2005, Abolurin steered the hitherto unknown NSCDC to an elite corps of professionals, moving it from its three-bedroom flat national headquarters and two operational vehicles to bring it at par with other paramilitary agencies in the country.
