A middle-aged woman who was reportedly kidnapped by a group of armed men in Abaji, a satellite town in FCT Abuja, has been rescued by the Nigerian Police. It was learnt that the victim, Mrs. Ejezie, was travelling to the east with her husband when she was abducted.
A close source said they noticed that their vehicle was slowing down and decided to stop and trace where the fault was. “As soon as they stopped, some armed men trailing behind them jumped out of their car and abducted the wife.”
The woman’s husband immediately contacted his priest, who in turn phoned a police officer that assisted in tracking down the kidnappers. It was further learnt that it was the same phone number the abductors used in calling the husband to negotiate for a ransom that the police used to trace their whereabouts.
“She was still in the captivity of the abductors when the police moved into the bush and combed the entire area, shooting sporadically into the air,” the source added.
He said the kidnappers became jittery and suddenly abandoned the woman and took to their heels before the police came and rescued her.
